College of Science, University of Mustansiriyah discussed a master dissertation on the relation between normal bacterial content and postoperative infections by the postgraduate student, Mrs. Dalia Awni Adwar.
The dissertation aimed at assessing the percentage of infections after cesarean section surgeries and determining the cause of their occurrence, whether through bacteria on the skin or in the tools and solutions used.
The dissertation reviewed diagnosing types of opportunistic bacteria that inhabit the skin, using multiple types of culture media, the (VITEK 2) device and testing sterilizers that reduce bacterial load.
The dissertation highlighted that all tools and solutions used during surgical operations and included in the study confirmed their negative effects on the growth of bacteria, and that the use of sterilization with povidone-iodine with alcohol proved to be better in reducing bacterial content than using povidone-iodine.
