College of Science, University of Mustansiriya discussed a Ph.D. thesis on preparing, studying and applying of a Nano-composite for using in the photocatalytic decomposition of organic pollutants in water via sunlight by the postgraduate student, Mrs. Rawasi Iyad Muhammad.
The thesis aimed at preparing of Nano-composite (SnO2-CuO) by the hydrothermal method, based on both tin oxide and copper(II) oxide, in addition to studying the effect of the parameters of concentration, time, and acidity on the compound’s properties, surface, and composition and optical, through (XRD), (FTIR), (FE-SEM), and (UV-VIS) optical examinations, as well as applying photocatalysis to the prepared samples, by employing sunlight to treat environmental pollution occurring in contaminated water industrially.
The thesis confirmed the efficiency of the prepared (SnO2-CuO) Nano-composite and its high ability to catalyze the decomposition of methylene blue dye from polluted water, especially when sunlight is applied, as the dye decomposition rate reached by (97%).
