The faculty members in the College of Engineering, University of Basrah, Dr. Fadhil Rahma Tahir and Mr. Abdul Basit Abdul Samad Jassim published a research in the WHO journal within Clarivate on the epidemiological characteristics of corona virus. The research reviewed the epidemiological characteristics of COVID-19 in Iraq via collecting data of Iraqi Ministry of Health for the period from February 27, 2020 until April 1, 2020 to be delivered in a dynamic mathematical model consisting of seven differential equations called SEIR-QD system and one of the features of this model is to highlight a group of epidemiological variables that are usually hidden, including the number of infections. The research concluded selecting of the mathematical model coefficients via using a swarm of birds’ algorithm for best solution that highlights the characteristics of the epidemic spread of the infection rate and the rate of β incubation period γ, preventive index λ and κ mortality rate. The research also reviewed that according to the mathematical model the epidemic in Iraq will reach its highest level on May 3, 2020 as indicated in the epidemic curve as well as the expected the total number of infected people will be around nineteen thousand and the epidemic will be ended by mid of July 2020.
