The National Center for Diabetes, University of Al-Mustansiriyah delivered a lecture on gestational hyperglycemia.
The lecture, in which a number of faculty members, doctors and specialists participated, aimed at highlighting the diabetes that affects women temporarily during pregnancy and may develop in the future if not treated, and reviewing the most important and the latest information and treatments on the disease.
The lecture reviewed that gestational hyperglycemia occurs as a result of high blood glucose levels due to several factors including excessive weight gain during the first months, genetic factor of infection, high blood pressure and the birth of a child with congenital deformity previously.
The lecture recommended daily exercise such as swimming, walking for half an hour, avoiding smoking, eating vegetables, fruits and sugar-rich beverages, following a healthy diet with low calorie intake, eating small meals every two hours, drinking water and controlling weight.
