College of Engineering, University of Diyala discussed a master dissertation on the structural behavior of reinforced concrete beams with additional reinforcement using different patterns of jute fiber braids by the postgraduate student, Mr. Hussein Abd Al-Hassan.
The dissertation aimed at reviewing the effect of internal reinforcement with jute ropes on the behavior of concrete sills containing jute ropes, the effect of the treatment method on them and to know the effect of the connection area between the ropes and the surrounding concrete on the bearing capacity of reinforced concrete sills.
The dissertation highlighted studying the properties of reinforced concrete thresholds through the use of alternatives to reinforcement steel, which is considered heavy in weight, high in cost and has poor resistance to corrosion.
The dissertation concluded that the beams that were reinforced with jute ropes had a decrease in the percentage of resistance with regard to the flexural test, compared to an increase in the percentage of resistance for the beams in the shear test.
