College of Education, University of Samarra discussed a master dissertation on evaluating of the level of the hormone hepcidin and some biochemical variables in patients with hyperthyroidism by the postgraduate student, Mr. Samir Hazem Ali.
The dissertation aimed at estimating the levels of the hormone hepcidin and some biochemical variables, which included (triiodothyronine T3, thyroxine T4, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), ferritin, iron, parathyroid hormone, calcium, as well as progesterone and estrogen in patients with hyperthyroidism who their ages ranged from 20-50 years.
The dissertation reviewed an increase in the level of T4 and T3 hormones and a decrease in the level of TSH hormone at the level of probability P≤0.05 in the blood serum of the patients group compared to the control group, with a decrease in the level of the hormone hepcidin in the blood serum of the patients group compared to the control group and at the level of probability P≤ 0.05 and a decrease in the level of ferritin protein and a decrease in the level of iron in the blood serum of the patients group compared to the control group at the level of probability P≤0.05, as well as a decrease in the level of parathyroid hormone and the level of calcium in the blood serum of the patients group compared to the control group at the level of probability P≤0.05.
The dissertation confirmed the presence of a negative significant correlation between hepcidin and T3 hormone in the blood serum of the patients group, and a positive significant correlation between hepcidin and iron in the healthy blood serum.
